1. What this site collects from you
Nothing you type, because there is nothing to type. No accounts, no sign-up, no newsletter, no comment box, no contact form. If you email us, we have your email — that is the only way we get anything from you directly.
Our web server keeps standard access logs: the IP address a request came from, the page requested, the time, the browser’s user-agent string, and the referring page. These exist to keep the site running and to spot abuse. They are not used to build a profile of you and are not sold or shared.
2. Cookies we set
One, and it holds nothing about you: a signed random identifier so that the “Same here” button counts each visitor once instead of once per click. It is not linked to anything else, is never read by any other site, and is the only cookie this site sets itself. We use no local storage.
The cookies described in the next two sections are set by Google, not by us.
3. Advertising, and the cookies that come with it
This site is funded by advertising served through Google AdSense. At the time of writing, ads are not yet live on this site; this section describes what happens once they are.
Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this site or to other websites. Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and/or other sites on the internet.
You can opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings. You can opt out of personalised advertising from other participating vendors at aboutads.info/choices or youronlinechoices.eu. Opting out does not remove ads; it makes them less relevant.
Google’s own description of how it handles data from sites that use its services is at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.
4. Analytics
This site uses Google Analytics to see which pages people read and where they arrived from. It sets cookies in your browser and sends Google your IP address, the pages you view, and your browser’s user-agent string. We look at this in aggregate — page counts and traffic sources — and we do not use it to identify anyone or to build a profile of you.
You can stop it entirely with Google’s opt-out browser add-on, or with any tracker blocker — the site works exactly the same either way. How Google handles this data is described at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.
There is no session recording and there are no heatmaps.
5. People we quote
Quotes on this site come from public forum posts. For each one we store the text, the handle it was posted under, its score, and its URL — nothing beyond what is publicly visible on the original thread, and nothing that identifies the author beyond the handle they chose to post under.
If you wrote something quoted here and would rather it were not, email [email protected] with a link to the quote. We remove it, no questions and no argument.
6. Children
This site is not directed at children under 13 and knowingly collects nothing from them.
7. Changes to this policy
When this policy changes, the date at the top of the page changes with it. There is no mailing list to notify, so that date is the honest signal.
8. Contact
Anything on this page, or anything else: [email protected].
