Which water heater brand is the most reliable?

It is unclear if there are real build differences between brands, or if buyers are simply paying for 6-, 9-, or 12-year warranties. This choice is further complicated because manufacturers often restrict direct consumer purchases and refuse to warranty DIY installations. Consequently, people cannot confidently buy a unit, fearing it will fail exactly when the standard warranty expires.

  1. 1
Flushing the tank yearly and inspecting the anode rod after 3-5 years

  2. 2
Buying brands available at supply houses or big-box stores depending on accessibility and warranty requirements

  3. 3
Buying directly from a plumbing supply house or wholesaler instead of retail stores.
