Why does my stove burner click, get too hot, and spin in circles?
A malfunctioning stove burner can make a strange crackling noise, fail to regulate temperature properly by overheating while taking forever to heat up, and spin in circles without catching. These mechanical and electrical faults prevent people from turning on the burner or adjusting its temperature correctly, leaving them wondering if it can be fixed without replacing the entire panel.
What people tried
Every workaround mentioned in the threads below. We haven’t tested any of them — and nobody here is claiming they worked.
- 1Avoiding the use of the malfunctioning burner and only using the other burners.
- 2Cleaning the post behind the knob with canned air
- 3Removing the knob from a different switch to test it
- 4Checking if a recessed screw holding the knob needs to be tightened

“Does anyone know if it’s possible to fix it without having to replace the entire panel? To turn it on you push in and turn, it’s supposed to catch and then turn that spot on and you adjust temperature from there. But this one won’t catch anymore and just slides in circles without turning on.”source ↗
“It sounds a bit different in the video, but when I turn on this specific burner (and only this burner) it starts making a crackling noise.”source ↗
“We previously noticed the burner didnt regulate heat well (i.e. srtting it at med would often get way too hot but also take forever to heat up.”source ↗
