How to get rid of an aggressive raccoon as a renter
Standard deterrents like yelling and throwing things fail against fearless raccoons that actively charge at people and attack pets. Renters are left with few options because animal control takes too long to arrive and local laws prohibit shooting near other houses. This leaves people unable to safely walk their pets or go to their cars without being chased back indoors.
What people tried
Every workaround mentioned in the threads below. We haven’t tested any of them — and nobody here is claiming they worked.
- 1Yelling and throwing things to chase the animal off
- 2Chasing the animal down the sidewalk with a broom
- 3Considering leaving out spice-laden food
- 4Calling the police to scare it away with lights
- 5Calling the game commission for advice
- 6Waiting for the animal to actively charge to legally shoot it
