Why is the paint on my bathroom ceiling peeling?

Condensation from long showers loosens the paint, causing it to bubble and peel away from the surface. Fixing the problem requires scraping or sanding the loose paint, applying a primer like Kilz to seal the area, and repainting.

What people tried

Every workaround mentioned in the threads below. We haven’t tested any of them — and nobody here is claiming they worked.

  1. 1
Sand and repaint the damaged area
  2. 2
Wire the exhaust fan to the light switch
  3. 3
Install a humidity-sensing exhaust fan switch
  4. 4
Replace glass enclosures to allow 6 inches of clearance to the ceiling
  5. 5
Limit hot water availability or shower duration

So, I am assuming that this peeling paint is just crazy amounts of condensation loosening the paint and I can sand it, prime with Kilz and paint it.source ↗
