Should I buy a house with extensive basement mold?

Extensive basement mold raises immediate concerns about permanent damage and whether the problem is uncontrollable and will just keep reoccurring. This uncertainty makes it difficult to decide if the house is even worth considering with a formal inspection, or if it is better to just pass on it entirely.
