Why does my dog pee inside right after a walk?

Dogs often fail to empty their bladders fully outdoors or treat the indoor environment as a marking zone, which leaves owners wiping up accidents the moment they return. Walking longer routes or using enzyme cleaners fails to stop the behavior, leaving people unable to trust their house is safe immediately after coming home.

What people tried

Every workaround mentioned in the threads below. We haven’t tested any of them — and nobody here is claiming they worked.

  1. 1
    Using a belly band
  2. 2
Redirecting the dog the second you step inside
  3. 3
Rushing the dog onto the balcony immediately after the walk
  4. 4
Letting the dog out before and immediately after meal times
  5. 5
Cleaning the area with an enzymatic cleaner
  6. 6
    Using calming plug-ins
  7. 7
Picking up the bowls the second they are done eating

he pees in the house a lot, it doesn't matter if we just got home from a daytrip, a hike, or just one of our usual walks. He will almost immediately find something to pee on inside.source ↗

I can't figure this out I've tried extending our usual route and changing it for a quieter one. We walk until he lifts his leg and nothing comes out but he will still pee as soon as he's inside.source ↗

I clean each mess with an enzyme cleaner to remove the odor to discourage him from going inside none of this has helped.source ↗

Recently, my 5 1/2 year old schnauzer has been peeing on the floor after her walk.source ↗

Essentially, he will finish his dinner, then pee next to his bowl after he's done.source ↗

Sometimes he'll come back inside and mark anyway or wait until we leave the room and mark.source ↗

I'm at a loss of how to correct this behavior, especially since its been going on for a while and he's kind of sneaky about it.source ↗
