How to handle random car error codes and weird driving feelings

“My check engine came on about a week ago so. I went to AutoZone today to get it checked out before going to a mechanic. Is the secondary DTC error codes something that happened in the past and it was stored in the memory or something that’s why it came up?”source ↗
