Should I cancel my whole life insurance or cut my losses?

Paying hundreds of dollars a month for a policy that takes years to match its cost basis creates a heavy ongoing financial strain. Meanwhile, the original need for coverage often fades as beneficiaries age, making the eventual payout far less useful. This leaves policyholders stuck deciding whether to cut their losses immediately or keep paying simply because they are already so far into it.

What people tried

Every workaround mentioned in the threads below. We haven’t tested any of them — and nobody here is claiming they worked.

  1. 1
cashing in the whole life policy
  2. 2
switching to a term life insurance policy if dependents are present
  3. 3
relying on personal savings for final expenses instead of maintaining a policy
  4. 4
Surrendering the policy to take whatever cash value is left.
  5. 5
Purchasing a much cheaper term life insurance policy to ensure dependents are covered.
  6. 6
Investing the difference in monthly premiums into a retirement account.
  7. 7
Firing the financial advisor who sold them the commission-based policy.

“That’s what I’m thinking. My sister and I are extremely close so I have her as beneficiaries but I guess at the time it would really benefit, god willing, we will both be so old.”source ↗
