Should I change flights to avoid flying over conflict zones?

Travelers face severe anxiety and steep financial penalties when deciding whether to rebook flights passing through or near volatile airspace. Non-refundable tickets and lost accommodations force people to choose between forfeiting thousands of dollars or risking their safety on high-anxiety routes.

“I was in a similar situation and just bought new tickets to a route that avoids a layover in Doha. At the end of the day, while the risk is “low”, there’s still a risk and my life is worth more than 3k.”source ↗

“I’m flying over the Middle East at the beginning of December (Australia to Istanbul via Singapore) . Should I be concerned? I’m afraid of flying over those areas.”source ↗

“Was due to fly Qatar airlines next week with a stopover in Qatar, which is right next to Saudi Arabia. SA had a missile attack on its airport last night, and I am planning to change my flights to a different airline to avoid the area completely. I am going to lose $3k if I do and probably lose some money with the accomodation as well as I booked it non refundable (I know, mistake). I’m stressed and I want to cry so please be kind.”source ↗
