Is my car dipstick shrinking?
A dropping oil level on a dipstick usually points to an active oil leak or internal oil consumption rather than a shrinking measuring tool. Ignoring this drop can lead to severe engine damage from low oil levels, even if the consumption appears to temporarily slow down or stop.
