Why is my domestic order shipping from overseas and clearing customs?

Sellers list their location as domestic to attract buyers wanting fast delivery, but quietly fulfill orders from overseas locations like Turkey, China, or India when domestic stock runs out or isn't actually maintained. Buyers are left stuck waiting weeks or months for packages to clear customs and facing unexpected tariff charges.

  2. 2
Refusing to pay the unexpected tariffs so the shipping company charges them back to the seller.

  3. 3
Leaving a negative review while carefully avoiding naming the shipping company so the seller cannot get it removed.

“I ordered from Gimora Jewelry on Etsy which was listed as in NJ and shipping in US. Order came, followed by a tariff charge. I messaged the seller who said it was out of stock in NJ and they thought it would be nice to send it faster from Turkey via UPS.”source ↗

“Before tariffs were even an issue I ordered stuff from sellers. Some said they were from Ukraine but when I got my package said it was shipped from Turkey.”source ↗

“I recently purchased a necklace, coincidentally to OP, that also said it was based in New Jersey. All the reviews were positive, no indication of Turkey. Received tracking and the item originated in Turkey.”source ↗

“I recently ordered a Minecraft toy on ebay for a co-worker's son for Halloween, purposely picked a seller supposedly located in Massachusetts. Was told the item would arrive in 6 days (day before Halloween) . On day 6 suddenly the tracking says the item has just cleared customs in China.”source ↗
