Why is my puppy suddenly growling and snapping near me?

Puppies can suddenly display defensive aggression, growling, and snapping when other animals or humans get close to their owner or valuable items like chews. This shocking behavior leaves owners feeling confused and worried that their dog might bite or turn aggressive.

What people tried

Every workaround mentioned in the threads below. We haven’t tested any of them — and nobody here is claiming they worked.

  1. 1
Consulting wiki articles or experienced owners to determine if the behavior is resource guarding or protectiveness
  2. 2
Checking with a vet to calm hormones down
  3. 3
Getting professional training for resource guarding

“Whenever she has it she doesn't chew it simply takes it somewhere she determines safe and keeps it there along with growling and getting defensive around it and she even tore into my hand a few days ago, she also whines when away from it and freaks out if we hold it just infront of her out of reach.”source ↗
