Is it safe to drive with broken parking brake components?
Driving with broken brake components can cause the vehicle to suddenly roll backward on inclines if the foot brake fails to hold. People often question whether they can continue driving while waiting for replacement parts, but failing to fix the issue leaves them relying entirely on emergency brakes when standard stopping power is compromised.
What people tried
Every workaround mentioned in the threads below. We haven’t tested any of them — and nobody here is claiming they worked.
- 1Parking by putting the truck in park instead of using the handbrake
- 2pulling the emergency brake to stop rolling
- 3using the parking brake while waiting at red lights
