How to get pet urine smell out of artificial turf

Uric acid crystals bond to artificial turf fibers and backing, failing to break down even with standard enzymes and hosing. When the sun hits the turf, it reactivates the trapped odor, leaving yards smelling severely fouled without proper chemical neutralization.

What people tried

Every workaround mentioned in the threads below. We haven’t tested any of them — and nobody here is claiming they worked.

  1. 1
hosing down the turf regularly to dilute the urine
  2. 2
dumping a bucket of water on the spot when the dog pees
  3. 3
saving shower water in a bucket to rinse the area
  4. 4
removing the turf entirely and replacing it with clover
  5. 5
Hosing down the spot with water
  6. 6
Digging up the dirt and moving it to train the dog to a new spot
  7. 7
Flipping the dirt and burying the pee
  8. 8
Deep cleaning the litter box more frequently
  9. 9
Switching litter brands or using silica beads
  10. 10
Adding water to cat food to help with dehydration odors
  11. 11
Using air purifiers and low dust litter
  12. 12
Attaching small trash can fresheners to the litter box

And now when the sun shines on it it reeks like an outhouse. And yes, we tried enzymes. And no, it didn't work. I even tried oxyclean.source ↗

And here in the PNW it basically doesn't rain all summer so nothing is rinsing it down.source ↗

I have 1 dog that will only pee in 1 specific spot in my yard. We are in the desert so no grass. It is starting to obviously smell in that spot and not sure what to do to get rid of it. I hose it down with water but it there anything I could use with it?source ↗
