How to find replacement car trim clips when nobody knows the part number

Dealerships often cannot identify or supply exact replacement fasteners for vehicle trim, leaving owners unsure which of the hundreds of generic clip types to buy. This makes it nearly impossible to reattach loose interior or exterior panels without ordering a massive, expensive assortment kit by trial and error.

What people tried

Every workaround mentioned in the threads below. We haven’t tested any of them — and nobody here is claiming they worked.

  1. 1
taking the part to an auto parts store to look through their large assortment of alternative push pins
  2. 2
Searching online retailers like Amazon for general clips
