Why do I hate how I look in my wedding photos?

Initial harsh self-criticism often makes people focus heavily on perceived flaws like hair, makeup, or weight when looking at new photos. This intense self-doubt can overshadow the memories and make the prospect of viewing or taking pictures deeply distressing.

What people tried

Every workaround mentioned in the threads below. We haven’t tested any of them — and nobody here is claiming they worked.

  1. 1
Waiting months or years for the initial critical feeling to dissipate and eventually liking some of the photos later.

“Looking through my photos and all I can focus on is how much I hate my hair and makeup. It turned out nothing like the trial. I’m already not photogenic and my hair and makeup just make it worse. How do you get over this feeling?”source ↗

“I don't know if it's the newness of them or what, but I am so soooooo critical at first and then that somehow dissipates.”source ↗
