Why does my refrigerator door ice maker keep jamming?
The ice tray often overfills, dumping stuck-together cubes into the door bin and causing the system to jam or slow down. Getting it working again requires manually removing the bin to clear stray cubes, turning the unit off overnight, or even hitting it.
What people tried
Every workaround mentioned in the threads below. We haven’t tested any of them — and nobody here is claiming they worked.
- 1Removing the bin and clearing stray ice cubes that fell back.
- 2Turning the ice maker off overnight and then switching it back on.
- 3Hitting or punching the front flat spot of the ice maker unit.
- 4Unplugging the refrigerator for 5 to 30 minutes to reset the control board.
- 5Replacing the ice maker unit or its plastic gears.
