Mystery part fell out during car repair — what is it?

“My shower drain was clogged so I used a 24’’ drain retrieval tool to pull a huge amount of hair, but this piece also came out of the drain. Now I’m not sure if it’s part of the plumbing or it’s just a random object that fell in the drain a long time ago?”source ↗
