What is this part of my roof called?

The height of a roof creates bad visual angles that make it difficult to tell if a shingle is missing or if a pipe needs a cover. Because you often cannot see the exterior details from inside the attic, it becomes hard to identify specific components or confirm if past repairs were actually finished.
