How to tell if suspension parts are bent or defective
Visual inspection alone cannot reveal if a suspension part is defective or bent. People end up frustrated because they cannot spot obvious bends when comparing sides after a pothole strike, or they mistakenly think a normal, off-center new ball joint is broken. To actually find the problem, you must verify that new joints feel very stiff and install the components to physically check for play.
What people tried
Every workaround mentioned in the threads below. We haven’t tested any of them — and nobody here is claiming they worked.
- 1installing the parts anyway and checking for play afterwards
- 2purchasing parts from alternative auto parts suppliers
- 3Replacing the damaged rim with a new one
- 4Visually inspecting and comparing suspension components on both sides of the car
- 5Taking the car to an alignment shop to check steering axis inclination and included angle
