Will taking a temporary break ruin my career?

Stepping away from a specialized career field or taking on a temporary role outside of your industry creates intense anxiety about whether you will be able to return. People worry that taking a short break will permanently damage their professional trajectory and make it impossible to get back into their primary field.

What people tried

Every workaround mentioned in the threads below. We haven’t tested any of them — and nobody here is claiming they worked.

  1. 1
Staying on the traditional career treadmill without taking breaks
  2. 2
Looking beyond current specialty roles into program management, partnerships, or operations to utilize transferable experience
