How to manage kids' crazy after school activity schedules?
Running around every night until 8 or 9 PM makes it difficult to maintain a consistent routine and get children to bed on time for proper rest. The heavy driving load leaves working parents struggling to balance multiple evening commitments.
What people tried
Every workaround mentioned in the threads below. We haven’t tested any of them — and nobody here is claiming they worked.
- 1Limiting children to one or two activities per season
- 2Ensuring at least one weeknight is completely free of activities
- 3Setting strict time boundaries so all activities end by 8 PM
- 4Scheduling activities during school hours or choosing options that require no driving
- 5Rushing back and forth shuttling children between school and activities.
- 6Doing homework on the bus
- 7Dropping extracurricular activities or sports
- 8Writing everything in pencil on a paper calendar and transferring to Google Calendar once confirmed
- 9Marking calendars when registration opens
- 10Skipping makeup lessons
