Is October 10th too early for a Halloween birthday party?

An October 10th party date sits in a gray area where it feels too distant from Halloween for a themed celebration. This leaves hosts stuck on whether to embrace the holiday early or settle for a generic theme, and unsure of when to send out invitations and lock down a headcount.

What people tried

Every workaround mentioned in the threads below. We haven’t tested any of them — and nobody here is claiming they worked.

  1. 1
    Asking online forums for validation
  2. 2
Checking whether the child is old enough to choose
  3. 3
Clarifying on invitations that costumes are not required
  4. 4
Sending out invitations early and asking guests to RSVP well in advance.
  5. 5
Asking the entertainment company about their policy on adjusting the final headcount closer to the date.
  6. 6
Giving presents on the party day or weekend instead
  7. 7
Making the actual birthday special through breakfast treats and decorations while keeping gifts for the evening after school
  8. 8
Reserving one main present for the school morning and the rest for the weekend
  9. 9
Paying extra money for weekend party slots
  10. 10
Limiting attendance only to the closest friends or whoever can make it
  11. 11
Reserving weeknight parties exclusively for Fridays or during summer break
  12. 12
Scheduling parties during the afternoon (12-2 pm) to accommodate churchgoers and lunch times

Is it reasonable to do the party on a weeknight from 5 PM to 7:30 PM or do you think most parents will decline the invitation?source ↗

Do I send out invitations now and ask people to RSVP by like the end of September/ beginning of October so I can have a head count. Then plan the party after that, or is it too soon to send out invitations?source ↗

When mine was in k - 3rd, she was out at 7.30. It wasn't even a bedtime so much as that was just as late as she could stand it.source ↗
