How to stop my cat from unrolling toilet paper

Cats unravel and shred toilet paper rolls instantly out of play or boredom, leaving bathrooms messy and wasting supplies. Using a covered toilet paper holder or storing the roll out of reach prevents nighttime shredding while keeping paper accessible.

What people tried

Every workaround mentioned in the threads below. We haven’t tested any of them — and nobody here is claiming they worked.

  1. 1
Reverse the roll so the leading edge is on the back
  2. 2
Keep toilet paper on top of the toilet tank or on the counter instead of the dispenser
  3. 3
Store the toilet paper in a cupboard or bag and take it out only when needed
  4. 4
Attach furniture felt gliders to the holder to increase resistance
  5. 5
Use a physical toilet paper roll cover that prevents unrolling
