Why does my house get dusty so quickly?

A fine layer of dust, hair, and full dust bunnies can coat every surface in just a few days, especially in city environments or with pets. This rapid buildup makes maintaining a clean home feel impossible, as it forces an unrealistic routine of manually wiping down everything multiple times a week.

What people tried

Every workaround mentioned in the threads below. We haven’t tested any of them — and nobody here is claiming they worked.

  1. 1
Having everyone remove their shoes to stop dirt from coming in
  2. 2
Using a lightly damp cloth instead of a wet cloth for cleaning
  3. 3
Wiping surfaces with a damp microfiber cloth or washcloth instead of a dry duster
  4. 4
Upgrading HVAC filters to MERV 11-13 and replacing them more frequently
  5. 5
Placing HEPA purifiers directly next to pet sleeping areas
  6. 6
Washing pet beds and sleeping blankets weekly
  7. 7
Brushing pets frequently to catch loose hair and dander
  8. 8
Vacuuming daily and using a Swiffer duster between deep weekly cleans
