How to get a piece of hair or dust out of a cat's eye

Cats frequently get minor debris like hair or dust in their eyes that they can blink out on their own. Trying to intervene immediately often leads to unnecessary vet calls for minor irritation.

What people tried

Every workaround mentioned in the threads below. We haven’t tested any of them — and nobody here is claiming they worked.

  1. 1
Waiting for the cat to blink it out naturally
  2. 2
Using a saline solution or eye drops to flush it out
  3. 3
Using a Q-tip to gently catch and twist out the hair
