How do I fix peeling and flaking stucco?

Stucco exterior walls can begin to flake, peel, or crack due to age or damage, sometimes requiring patches or repairs after hardware removal. Fixing these surface issues involves patching the base layer or rebuilding it back to a stable surface so the damage disappears. Matching the original paint color is often a final step to ensure the repaired area blends seamlessly.

What people tried

Every workaround mentioned in the threads below. We haven’t tested any of them — and nobody here is claiming they worked.

  1. 1
Patching the base layer first then retexturing the top
  2. 2
Chipping it off down to a stable surface and building back up
  3. 3
Finding a plasterer to come take a look in person
  4. 4
buying stucco patch material, mixing it, stuffing it into the holes, and letting it cure
  5. 5
sanding down high spots after the patch dries
  6. 6
taking a paint chip to a paint store to try to find a matching color and finish
  7. 7
    applying caulk
  8. 8
slapping more stucco into the gap

I installed these 4-in bolts through the stucco to hold a little canopy in our balcony. Now that I have removed the canopy and the screws, I have these holes left over. How do I patch this so it looks like it never happened.source ↗
