Kitten mounting and humping after coming home from vacation
Returning from vacation can coincide with a young kitten starting to mount other pets and people, engaging in full pelvic thrusting and biting the neck. Because vets may dismiss this as harmless play at 4.5 months old, owners are left dealing with sleep disruption and worry that the behavior will become an ingrained habit causing severe stress.
What people tried
Every workaround mentioned in the threads below. We haven’t tested any of them — and nobody here is claiming they worked.
- 1Moving from the couch to a chair
- 2Putting the cat down or standing up to stop the behavior
- 3Seeking a second opinion from another veterinary clinic
- 4Planning to neuter the kitten earlier than the original vet recommended
- 5Trying to manage and redirect the mounting and biting behavior
