Why won't my new thermostat turn on the heat?

New thermostat installations often fail to communicate properly with heating systems, causing the unit to incorrectly call for cooling or prevent the furnace from igniting. This configuration or wiring mismatch can successfully trigger the blower fan while failing to activate the boiler's circulator pump, leaving the home without heat.

What people tried

Every workaround mentioned in the threads below. We haven’t tested any of them — and nobody here is claiming they worked.

  1. 1
    Checking for blown fuses
  2. 2
Cutting back excess wire and reducing exposed bare wire
  3. 3
    Inspecting transformer and relay connections
  4. 4
Inspecting thermostat wiring connections at both the unit and the thermostat
  5. 5
Checking the thermostat installer setup menu for equipment type settings
  6. 6
Contacting the installation company to service the callback
