Loud whistling sound from newly installed valve
A loud whistling noise happens when running water through a newly installed spigot and ball valve, and adjusting the soldered supports will not stop it. If the sound comes from a gas valve, turning it off and back on can temporarily halt the noise. Ultimately, the whistling valve will need to be replaced.
What people tried
Every workaround mentioned in the threads below. We haven’t tested any of them — and nobody here is claiming they worked.
- 1opening and closing the valve repeatedly to check for a bad or partially open valve
- 2checking for contact between the pipe and supports to see if it amplifies the sound
- 3tightening the packing nut on the valve
- 4Turning the gas valve off and back on again temporarily stops the noise.
