Said It Here

Why does my car lurch and shake when I accelerate at low RPMs?

Heavy acceleration at low RPMs causes the vehicle to violently shake, lurch, and make clunking noises, while smaller inputs can trigger rough, punchy downshifts. This makes driving unresponsive and jarring, preventing smooth acceleration from low speeds.

What people tried

Every workaround mentioned in the threads below. We haven’t tested any of them — and nobody here is claiming they worked.

  1. 1
Checking ignition components like spark plugs, coils, and leads
  2. 2
    Inspecting for a vacuum leak
  3. 3
    Checking motor mounts
  4. 4
    Checking timing marks
  5. 5
    Changing the transmission fluid
  6. 6
Taught myself to avoid getting into the 'problemetic' speed range while driving
  7. 7
Checking engine mounts to see if worn mounts are exaggerating the shift feel
  8. 8
Apply a little more throttle to accelerate smoothly
  9. 9
Check the diesel filter and lines for clogs or leaks
  10. 10
    Clean the MAF sensor
  11. 11
Inspect the throttle position sensor or EGR valve
  12. 12
Replacing motor mounts and radiator mounts
  13. 13
Cleaning carbon buildup from the throttle body and idle air passages

when I happen to be coasting/decelerating at the 2nd-3rd gear ballpark (10~20 mph) and then press the gas pedal a bit more than 'lightly', the car downshifts to 1st gear (as it should) and the downshift feels rather rough and somewhat punchysource ↗

When I apply very light throttle (around 5% or less) in 1st or 2nd gear, the car starts jerking back and forth. It feels like someone is repeatedly kicking me in the backsource ↗

At the same time, the RPM needle visibly jumps in increments of around 75 RPM instead of rising smoothly.source ↗

It does have the mode 1 vibration problem, where once the engine idle goes below 700 rpms, it will start to vibrate.source ↗

Mine did that too, turned out the throttle body was caked in carbon and the idle air passages were basically clogged shut.source ↗
