Why is my laminate floor bubbling at the seams?

Water exposure from incidents like flooding or spills from a dog water bowl causes laminate boards to develop hard, solid ridges along the seams. These raised edges have no give and can be felt when walking barefoot or seen when the light hits them just right, leaving people unsure of the best steps to fix them.

What people tried

Every workaround mentioned in the threads below. We haven’t tested any of them — and nobody here is claiming they worked.

  1. 1
Leaving the spots alone and not messing with them
  2. 2
Putting a piece of furniture over the damaged area to hide it
  3. 3
Applying a wet towel and an iron to gently dissolve the glue back into the substrate
  4. 4
Replacing the damaged floor with waterproof options like ceramic tile or LVP
  5. 5
Tear out the damaged planks and replace them
  6. 6
Cover the damaged area with a rug
  7. 7
Use a hair dryer to attempt drying the moisture
