Why won't my car tires lift off the ground?

Using a jack like a 2-ton Hyper Tough model sometimes fails to lift the tires because worn or damaged suspension components, such as shocks visible in the wheel well, prevent proper clearance. This leaves the wheels stuck on the ground and stops you from completing the lift.

What people tried

Every workaround mentioned in the threads below. We haven’t tested any of them — and nobody here is claiming they worked.
