Do magic erasers strip wall paint?
Abrasive sponges act like sandpaper on walls, stripping off the paint itself rather than just cleaning away the dust and stains. This damage prevents people from effectively cleaning dirty spots without ruining the wall surface.
What people tried
Every workaround mentioned in the threads below. We haven’t tested any of them — and nobody here is claiming they worked.
- 1Mopping walls using dish soap and water or sugar soap with a flat or spin mop
- 2Dry dusting walls before using any liquid cleaners
- 3Washing walls with TSP (trisodium phosphate) or oxygen bleach detergents
- 4Sanding, priming, and repainting the walls completely
