Why won't sand compact as a sub-base?
Sand cannot be compressed or compacted into a hard layer; it merely shifts around when pressure is applied over a hard sub-base. Instead of compacting it, sand must be screeded if it is being used to level a surface.
What people tried
Every workaround mentioned in the threads below. We haven’t tested any of them — and nobody here is claiming they worked.
- 1Screed the sand instead of trying to compact it.
