Why does sending money to Wise show a US bank recipient address?

Transfer instructions often confuse users by listing a domestic bank address as the recipient when funding through services like Wise, leading them to accidentally select expensive wire transfers instead of ACH options. This lack of clarity leaves people questioning if their transfer steps are correct and whether their money is going to the right place.

What people tried

Every workaround mentioned in the threads below. We haven’t tested any of them — and nobody here is claiming they worked.

  1. 1
Selecting ACH payment instead of wire transfer
  2. 2
Logging into the Wise app to check Account Details and unique routing and account numbers
  3. 3
Transferring funds directly from Bank of America to the external bank
  4. 4
giving cash in weekly increments rather than a lump sum
  5. 5
adding them as authorized users on a credit card with spending limits
  6. 6
sharing account login details for online shopping
  7. 7
    sending money via electronic transfer

“I’m trying to set up a transfer from Bank A (USA bank, Bank of America) to bank B (Canadian bank). Step one is send money from Bank A to wise. The recipient address is Bank of America, but I use Bank of America to send money TO wise, why is is the recipient address?. It’s not a wise address? Does this sound correct?”source ↗

“I noticed I did select “wire” instead of “ACH” when it gave me the option. Maybe I should’ve selected ACH and that recipient bank would pop up?”source ↗

“Under “how would you like to pay”, you can select “wire transfer” or “connected US bank account ACH”. I selected wire transfer and that’s how it generated this account number for me to wire money to.”source ↗
