Dealing with weird or creepy roommates in cheap hostels

Staying in the cheapest available hostel dorms often exposes travelers to unsettling and bizarre behavior from other guests, such as strangers silently watching them without invitation. This makes it difficult to feel safe or comfortable in the room, turning what should be a cheap place to sleep into an intimidating experience.

What people tried

Every workaround mentioned in the threads below. We haven’t tested any of them — and nobody here is claiming they worked.

  1. 1
leaving the hostel in the middle of the night
  2. 2
sleeping outside or under a bridge
  3. 3
    avoiding staying in hostels altogether

I was pretty short on money so I bought the cheapest hostel I could find on hostel word which was about 10 Euros, I to the location but struggle to find the entrance because it was an unmarked, graffitied security door which lead down a hallway to the roomsource ↗
