Why are brand new Expo markers already dead?

Modern Expo markers are notoriously inconsistent, with new packs dying prematurely or showing uneven color matching compared to older batches. This sudden drop in quality leaves classrooms with unreliable supplies and forces teachers to constantly hunt for a working marker mid-lesson.

What people tried

Every workaround mentioned in the threads below. We haven’t tested any of them — and nobody here is claiming they worked.

  1. 1
Switching to alternative brands like Crayola or Pilot Vboard master markers
  2. 2
Spraying the whiteboard with cleaner or wiping it down with WD40 after every use
  3. 3
Using older leftover markers that still work properly

I’m so tired of EXPO markers. They are so inconsistent and they do not erase clean.source ↗

I spraying my board with cleaner every time I have to erase something and I’m getting exhausted. They just stick and spread.source ↗

My (3+ year) older ones erase beautifully, but the new packs don't at all.source ↗

It stands for never having a working expo marker because somehow even your brand new backup is dead.source ↗

Me too! I’ve been with expo this whole time but only started having problems with it this year. The color is also very inconsistent.source ↗

OMG the color thing drives me NUTS! I always buy the 10 pack or whatever for all the colors because I like to color code my boards, but that's been out the window because I can't color match between the same color markers!source ↗
