Why does my whiteboard smear and leave outlines when I erase?

Dry erase boards often smudge and leave ghost outlines of words instead of wiping clean, regardless of the markers or spray used. This frustrating residue makes it difficult to maintain a clean writing surface during everyday use.

What people tried

Every workaround mentioned in the threads below. We haven’t tested any of them — and nobody here is claiming they worked.

  1. 1
Wiping with water instead of chemical sprays
  2. 2
Using rubbing alcohol or Expo spray
  3. 3
Using a cloth rag or replaceable eraser pads
  4. 4
Switching to specific marker colors like purple that smear less
