Are deep lawn edges along sidewalks dangerous?
Deep lawn edges and metal driveway borders create severe tripping and biking hazards for children. While property owners like that they look clean and keep out Bermuda grass, kids are falling into them, resulting in wrecked bikes, broken glasses, and injuries requiring stitches.
What people tried
Every workaround mentioned in the threads below. We haven’t tested any of them — and nobody here is claiming they worked.
- 1letting dandelions grow
- 2putting landscaping bricks around the trunks of trees
- 3filling or sloping the edge down inside concrete borders
- 4Using a dedicated stick edger to cut the grass line cleanly.
- 5Flipping a string trimmer upside-down and keeping RPMs low.
- 6Relying on the concrete itself as the natural border without adding extra materials.
