Massive gaps around furnace filter and a pipe in the way
Air flows freely around massive gaps on both sides of the filter brackets, making it look like a botched upgrade missing protective foam. Attempting to replace the filter is often physically blocked by a black drainage pipe. Even after disconnecting the pipe's clamp, the leftover piece remains too long to clear the metal panel, trapping the filter inside.
What people tried
Every workaround mentioned in the threads below. We haven’t tested any of them — and nobody here is claiming they worked.
- 1using home air purifiers to handle the heavy lifting
- 2accepting it as standard behavior meant solely to keep the coil clean
- 3Loosening hose clamps to temporarily disconnect the condensate drain line
- 4Pulling apart unglued PVC slip joints to create clearance
- 5Rerouting the drain pipe entirely for future access
