Why do appliance warranty repairs take weeks or months?

Warranty service providers routinely leave customers waiting weeks or months for backordered parts and technician appointments. This leaves families stuck living without essential appliances like refrigerators and stoves, sometimes even dealing with active safety hazards while waiting for a fix.

What people tried

Every workaround mentioned in the threads below. We haven’t tested any of them — and nobody here is claiming they worked.

  1. 1
shutting off gas to the entire unit manually
  2. 2
going back and forth with the manufacturer and local service partners
  3. 3
posting online to seek advice on how to document stories and ensure accountability
  4. 4
    renting a temporary fridge
  5. 5
returning the appliance to the retailer
  6. 6
    filing a credit card chargeback
  7. 7
filing a complaint with the state Attorney General
  8. 8
    hiring an independent third-party technician

On week 4 without a working fridge. Techs don’t seem to have any real guess to the issue and are just ordering random parts.source ↗

as or stands they said parts are back ordered for two weeks so we are looking at a minimum of 6 weeks without a fridge.source ↗

you gotta wait for parts and tech appointments for weeks on end and in the meantime you have no fridge or hot water.source ↗

we purchased a Thor stove and oven unit about 8 months ago. In July, we had trouble with the unit (inconsistent sparker and knobs not working predominately) - and submitted a claim.source ↗

a burner was on and the knob was frozen where we couldn't turn it off (we needed to shut off gas to the entire unit).source ↗

He said "I'm not touching this, it's a safety hazard".source ↗

My wife and I have three young kids, a unit that doesn't work and has been deemed a "safety hazard" - we've been without a stove and oven for a couple of weeks.source ↗
