Overall GPA vs major GPA on resume

It is unclear whether an overall or major GPA matters more for landing jobs and internships. This debate keeps applicants on the fence, because leaving the metric off entirely raises fears that employers will just assume the worst.

What people tried

Every workaround mentioned in the threads below. We haven’t tested any of them — and nobody here is claiming they worked.

  1. 1
Listing major GPA only when overall GPA is low to cushion it
  2. 2
Listing overall GPA by default without explicitly specifying
  3. 3
Leaving GPA off the resume entirely
  4. 4
Including GPA anyway out of concern that hiring managers will assume the worst if omitted
