Why does the bank hold checks for so long?

Banks can hold deposited checks for anywhere from two weeks to over two months before releasing the funds. This leaves business owners and individuals completely without access to necessary cash for their daily operations and forces them to wait weeks even on smaller deposits.

What people tried

Every workaround mentioned in the threads below. We haven’t tested any of them — and nobody here is claiming they worked.

  1. 1
Opening another business account with a different institution
  2. 2
Switching to a local credit union
  3. 3
Using alternative institutions like Amex Business Checking
