Why do indoor security cameras feel so creepy?

Walking constantly in front of a lens creates a "Big Brother effect" where you never feel completely free in your own home. Even if the camera is unplugged or physically hidden, the microphone is still listening and outside network access can never be guaranteed completely secure. This persistent discomfort ultimately stops people from using indoor cameras at all.

“I’ve always shied away from having cameras for the reasons you already gave. Also, if you can access your cameras from outside your home network, it’s difficult to completely guarantee that absolutely no one else can.”source ↗

“I think the peek-a-boo mechanism is well executed and clever but I must admit that I think this might be even creepier than a camera that is always visible. I don't do indoor cameras at all though.”source ↗
