Are my first paycheck tax withholdings too high?

It is hard to tell if initial tax deductions are correct or simply reflective of how much taxes cost. This uncertainty leaves new workers unable to figure out how to calculate or verify the proper amount to withhold.

What people tried

Every workaround mentioned in the threads below. We haven’t tested any of them — and nobody here is claiming they worked.

  1. 1
    Using online paycheck calculators
  2. 2
Breaking down individual taxes and deductions manually
  3. 3
Comparing tax percentages with other earners
  4. 4
Withhold 22% plus the state tax rate as an approximation.

I’m not sure if my withholdings are wrong as this seems steep, or am I just being ignorant as to how much taxes actually are unfortunately?source ↗
