When should benefit deductions start for new enrollments?
Deductions typically start either during the pay period when benefits become effective or on the first pay date of the month. Once deducted, automated payroll systems frequently delay the actual deposits by days or even weeks. These late deposits provoke aggressive complaints from staff expecting their money on payday and cause headaches when employees terminate without receiving their funds.

“When should benefits deductions start for new enrollments?? Benefits for new enrollments start on the first of the month. Employees are paid bi-weekly and deductions are taken each pay period, including 3 paycheck months. Should deductions start on the pay period when benefits become effective or the first pay date of the month??”source ↗

“We had it set up as an automation with our payroll company for awhile so it was supposed to happen as soon as payroll was submitted. It never worked the way it was supposed to and deposits would sometimes be a week or two late. It was a real headache when an employee termed and didn't have their funds.”source ↗
