Why am I still getting monthly fees after closing my account?

Businesses and account holders continue to get billed monthly maintenance and subscription charges long after their merchant accounts have been shut down. This leaves owners stuck dealing with unexpected bills, surprise balances, and endless admin headaches for services they no longer use.

What people tried

Every workaround mentioned in the threads below. We haven’t tested any of them — and nobody here is claiming they worked.

  1. 1
Threatening customer support with legal action
  2. 2
Filing a chargeback or dispute through the bank
  3. 3
Paying the fee as an expensive lesson
  4. 4
Accepting tax penalties and non-qualified withdrawal fees just to eliminate the account and stop paying monthly maintenance charges.

“today I find out I owe them $645, which I stupidly pay because they told me it was for chargebacks.”source ↗

“I call their support office later to confirm because it felt off and what they told me was it was a monthly fee, which I then flip on them because I shouldn't be getting charged monthly fees as my account is closed”source ↗

“My account charges my monthly maintenance fees and I just want to get rid of it. I am really sick of admin nonsense and I have ZERO interest in retirement so I don’t want to roll over to Fidelity and I don’t want to invest whatever is left in there.”source ↗

“I don’t know how much is in the account after two years of paying fees, I just want to get rid of it. Yes, I will “light 20% of my money on fire” just to be rid of the headache.”source ↗
