Jeep Cherokee instrument cluster and gauges dropping to zero
Electrical voltage fluctuations cause the instrument cluster gauges, including the fuel and battery levels and the tachometer, to drop to zero or go blank while driving or idling. This intermittent failure makes it difficult to monitor vital engine performance and points to an underlying charging system issue.
What people tried
Every workaround mentioned in the threads below. We haven’t tested any of them — and nobody here is claiming they worked.
- 1Restarting the vehicle to see if the display comes back.
- 2Replacing battery cables and grounds
- 3Replacing the battery, alternator, and PCM
- 4Cleaning gauge cluster connector pins with contact cleaner and dielectric grease
